Writer’s Lodge

Writer’s Lodge

A beautiful complex of buildings in the curtilage of a sixteenth-century Grade-Two  listed building in an area of great natural beauty, consisting of a minature medieval barn and a cottage which is available separately as a holiday let. The cottage sleeps up to four people (at a pinch) and was recently converted to a modern standard of comfort and furnished with antiques, local art and items from around the world. In the winter months, we give courses based around the publishing expertise of YouCaxton Publications, one of Britain’s best-established self-publishing and publishing-services companies.

Bishop’s Castle

 Where we are

Writer’s Lodge forms a peaceful oasis immediately behind the High Street of Bishop’s Castle, one of England’s quirkiest and most unique small towns. We are close to the pubs and restaurants but it’s often so quiet that you can hear the woodpeckers and there’s so little light pollution you can see the Milky Way on clear nights.

What we offer

We hope that when you are with us you will be able to step back and take stock. This is somewhere to relax, and there’s Wifi access (occasionally weak) and expert literary help on hand, if you take one of our courses or workshops.

Or you can simply relax and take advantage of our position in the South Shropshire hills, on the edge of an area of outstanding natural beauty. This is a great place for walkers: Offa’s Dyke National Path is only three miles up the hill behind us, as is the border with Wales and the whole area is laced with footpaths. There’s nothing much but hills, sheep and wildlife between here  and the Welsh coast fifty miles away.
